FuRR had its beginning in the
last couple of weeks of 2002. Five of us CARE "cat people" wanted
to take cat rescue and spay/neuter a step further than we could
do with CARE alone. We wanted to increase the number of cats and
kittens saved and focus on feral TNR and the rehabilitation of
offspring of ferals.
We attained nonprofit status and
began with 12 kittens rescued from Little Rock Animal Services.
Shortly thereafter,
due to financial shortfalls, CARE had to suspend their CATNIP program,
which provided for the trap, neuter and release of feral cats.
While still operating at "start-up speed" we made the
decision that with kitten season just beginning we had no choice
but to take over the monthly feral spay-neuter clinics. We almost
overnight began to operate at full speed, and the rest is, as they
say, history.
We are, in addition, able to expand
on the services most of the rescue groups offer and help some of
the needy felines who don't fit the profile for any rescue group
and who would otherwise end up slipping through the cracks. Every
Day, FuRR makes a difference in many feline lives.
